(Read more) A little history: This property is part of the historic Kinevan Ranch, which has been owned by the same family since the original land patent was granted to the Kinevan's in the late 1800s. Patrick and Norah Kinevan managed the stagecoach stop at the summit of San Marcos Pass from 1868 to 1901, collecting tolls for the owners of the stagecoach route that ran from Santa Ynez to Santa Barbara. The Kinevan homestead, known as Summit House, was located just to the south of this parcel for about 100 years. In addition to offering travelers a meal, the Kinevan family opened Summit House as a room and board for people with lung ailments who wanted to spend time in clean, mountain air. The climate and soil were ideal for the family to plant apple and pear trees, grape vines, lilacs and more.
